It is with great sadness that following the recent passing of Eric Davies the Huddersfield & District Junior League announce the very sad passing of Laurie Platt. Laurie passed away on Tuesday 9th March following a short stay in hospital.
Laurie was the longest serving former Committee member, his sense of fairness and wisdom made him the ideal president and leader of the League for 41 years, from 1975 to 2016. Laurie also gave his time to the WRCFA eventually becoming a director from 2005 to 2011.
Many people have fond memories of Laurie often stating when they called to see him, he would invite them in for a good natter about football before they went on their way. Laurie was a knowledgeable man and was passionate about the Huddersfield Junior League. Laurie’s work in developing football in West Yorkshire and the Huddersfield JFL will go unsurpassed.
In 2016 Laurie was presented with an inscribed mantle clock from the League by West Riding County FA Chairman Barry Chaplin. (pictured)
The Huddersfield & District Junior League would like to send their deepest condolences to Laurie’s niece and family.
