Community Grants Scheme

2008 - 2011

A NEW FUND FOR LOCAL GROUPS

Kirklees Council’s Community Grants are for groups wanting to run locally based projects in one or more wards.
Each ward has £15,500 available in each financial year.

To be eligible for a grant, your group must be non-profit making, have a constitution and accounts, and your own bank account. (If you do not have these, you may still be able to get funding for your project if you can find an established group which will hold the grant for you). You will need to be able to show that your group is well run.  You should be able to show why there is a need for your project, and how much it will cost.

The maximum grant that we will give for any project is £3,000.  For grants of less than £500 we offer a fast track decision making process – please ask for details.  Only one grant will be made to any organisation each financial year.

The types of project we want to fund are those which stimulate community activity in a local area.  This might be an estate, a village, a ward or a locality.  Unfortunately we cannot fund activities which promote religion or party politics.  As the focus of the grant is local activity, we will not fund projects which operate across the whole of Kirklees.  We cannot make grants to individuals, statutory organisations, or national organisations.

The scheme will operate in the financial years 2008/9 2009/10 and 2010/1.  The first deadline for applications will be in December 2008 and we expect that successful applicants will be informed in January 2009.
